Ceilidh: Scottish origin ‘party’, referring to a community gathering, usually incorporating recitations, stories, songs, dancing and feasting). In the context of this research, Ceilidhs were Story and Song–sharing Events, accompanied by food, described in detail in Chapter 7.
Communitas: Communitas comes when those who have been through a ritual experience of liminal space are reassimilated into a new expression of community identity. Communitas is discussed in more depth in Chapter 1.
Cross–cultural: Refers to intentional interaction between cultures.
Emerging (1) The Emerging Church movement . Emerging Subgroup (or Emergents) – refers to people at Wesley, Newcastle, identifying as Generations X or Y – between 20 and 36 years, with an interest in sustainable living and ecotheology
Eucharist: Also known as Holy Communion, The Lord’s Supper or Mass. In this context, Eucharist refers to the entire worship service in which the memorial rite of Eucharist (Thanks for Jesus’ New Covenant of sharing bread and wine) takes place. The Eucharistic prayer refers to the section of liturgy where the Great Prayer of Thanksgiving is spoken and includes the breaking and sharing of bread and wine and sending of the people.
Iona/World Music: In this setting, Iona / World Music will refer to world music collections sourced from the Iona Community and Wild Goose Resource Group
Migrant: Migrant subgroup – refers to a group of 1st Generation (born outside Australia) and 2nd Generation (born in Australia to 1st Generation parents) migrants, including an extended Samoan family and people from elective and forced migration experiences (Sudanese, Fijian, Filipino, Indonesian, South African, Samoan, Ukrainian, Greek, Chinese and Tongan). Some of these migrants lived in ethnically–specific and others were in mixed–culture households.
Novocastrian: A person from Newcastle
Seeker: Seeker subgroup – refers to a mixed group of mostly working–aged ‘Baby Boomers’, oriented towards social justice and interested in spirituality and ‘Progressive’ theology
Twilighter: Twilight subgroup – refers to a group of mature, retired, faithful, long–term, Wesleyan–influenced worshippers. They are Anglo–Celtic Australians, with a strong sense of their inherited tradition.
